Highway Department

The Highway Superintendent is an elected position.  The term of office is four (4) years.  The Highway Superintendent is responsible to inspect and oversee the maintenance of roads, supervise the staff, town vehicle repair and maintenance, building maintenance, interact with the New York State Department of Transportation, St. Lawrence County Highway Department, and the Village of Waddington DPW, and to prepare and manage a yearly budget.

The Town equipment ranges in size from snowplows, road graders, manlifts, dump boxes and dump trucks to push mowers and chain saws.  The highway garage has a completely equipped repair shop where the majority of the equipment maintenance and repairs are done.  The Highway Department employs three (3) full time employees and one seasonal winter employee.

The Highway Department maintains 41.86 miles of Town Roads and plows an additional 27.33 miles of County Roads.

In an effort to keep costs down the Highway Department shares services with the Towns of Madrid, Lisbon, Louisville, and the Village of Waddington.  The Department also jointly owns a paver and roller with the Town of Madrid and a backhoe and grader with the Village of Waddington.

By order of the Waddington Town Board all town roads within the Township of Waddington will be posted at a maximum of four (4) tons per axle.  This posting will be in effect upon the erection of proper signs and will remain in effect until signs have been removed by authorization of the Town Superintendent.

By order of the Waddington Town Board as of July 19, 2021 the McGinnis Rd, Town of Waddington has been posted to a weight limit of 5 tons with no thru traffic.

By order of the Waddington Town Board as of March 13, 2017 the 2 mile gravel portion of the Hardscrabble Road, Town of Waddington has been posted to a weight limit of 8 tons.
