Waddington Fire Department
Established on December 22, 1890, serves the Town and Village of Waddington, NY, covering 58 square miles, including 6.4 square miles of waterways. This volunteer department, comprising 40 members, operates two engines, towers, a heavy rescue, a light rescue/brush, and an airboat from a single station. Waddington a population of over 2,000 and is one of 42 fire departments in St. Lawrence County.

Highway Superintendent
The Highway Superintendent is an elected position. The term of office is four (4) years. The Highway Superintendent is responsible to inspect and oversee the maintenance of roads, supervise the staff, town vehicle repair and maintenance, building maintenance, interact with the New York State Department of Transportation, St. Lawrence County Highway Department, and the Village of Waddington DPW, and to prepare and manage a yearly budget. The Town equipment ranges in size from snowplows, road graders, manlifts, dump boxes and dump trucks to push mowers and chain saws. The highway garage has a completely equipped repair shop where the majority of the equipment maintenance and repairs are done. The Highway Department employs three (3) full time employees and one seasonal winter employee. The Highway Department maintains 41.86 miles of Town Roads and plows an additional 27.33 miles of County Roads. In an effort to keep costs down the Highway Department shares services with the Towns of Madrid, Lisbon, Louisville, and the Village of Waddington. The Department also jointly owns a paver and roller with the Town of Madrid and a backhoe and grader with the Village of Waddington. By order of the Waddington Town Board all town roads within the Township of Waddington will be posted at a maximum of four (4) tons per axle. This posting will be in effect upon the erection of proper signs and will remain in effect until signs have been removed by authorization of the Town Superintendent. By order of the Waddington Town Board as of July 19, 2021 the McGinnis Rd, Town of Waddington has been posted to a weight limit of 5 tons with no thru traffic. By order of the Waddington Town Board as of March 13, 2017 the 2 mile gravel portion of the Hardscrabble Road, Town of Waddington has been posted to a weight limit of 8 tons.

Code Enforcement Officer
The Waddington Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing the International Building and Fire Protection Code, the New York State Uniform Building and Fire Protection Code, and local municipal building codes, as well as the provisions of other local laws pertaining to quality-of-life issues. Duties: Reviews, checks, and passes on plans and specifications submitted with building permit applications for compliance with building and fire protection codes, zoning ordinances, and applicable laws before issuing permits. Inspects buildings and structures in construction or repair for compliance with approved plans and specifications and all requirements of applicable ordinances or laws. Issues building permits and furnishes the prescribed certificates of occupancy and compliance. Explains the requirements of the local building codes, the local zoning ordinance, the International Building and Fire Code and other applicable laws to building contractors and the general public. Provides for the removal of illegal or unsafe conditions and secures the necessary safeguards during construction. Order unsafe conditions in existing structures removed and arrange for condemnation notices to owners and builders of improper or hazardous structures. Inspects existing buildings and structures to ensure their conformity with safety standards. Investigates complaints and assist in prosecuting violations of the building code and zoning ordinance. Prepares periodic reports of buildings and structures erected or altered, permits issued, fees collected, and estimated work costs covered by such permits for presentation to the Village Board of Trustees. Attends basic and continuing in-service training courses Building Permit Applications may be picked up, downloaded, and returned to the Village Clerk’s Office during regular business hours. The Code Enforcement Officer does not keep regular office hours. Assessor
The Waddington Town Board appoints the Assessor for a six-year term. Office Hours: Appointments can be made by calling the Assessor directly or contacting the Town Clerk’s Office The Assessor’s Job: The Assessor is responsible for preparing market value estimates for every property in the Town/Village of Waddington. The values, or assessments, are used to determine the tax burden for each parcel. Annually, the Assessor reviews permits, property transfers, and deeds to determine if a change in assessment is necessary. The Assessor is also responsible for administering tax exemptions for Senior Citizens, School Tax Relief (STAR), Agriculture, and Veterans. Dog Control
The Dog Control Officer is appointed by the Town Board. His responsibilities include ensuring that the Local Dog Law is being enforced, answering complaint calls from residents, and seeing that dogs in the Township are licensed and have current rabies shots. He is on call 24/7 to help residents with any dog problems that are encountered. The Town of Waddington does have a Local Law which is designed to protect the health, safety and well-being of persons and property by imposing restrictions on the keeping and running-at-large of dogs within the Town. It also contains provisions for the licensing of all dogs 4 months or older that live in the Town of Waddington.
