The Town Board of Waddington is seeking a dedicated Town resident to fill a vacancy on the Board of Assessment Review (BAR).
This is an important civic role that helps ensure property assessments within our community are fair, transparent, and equitable.
š About the Board
Board Structure:Ā 5 Members
Term Length:Ā 5-Year Appointment
The BAR serves as an independent judicial body responsible for reviewing the Townās assessment roll and hearing formal property assessment grievances.
āļø Role & Responsibilities
As a member of the Board of Assessment Review, you will:
Work alongside the Town Assessor during the grievance process
Review property assessment documentation
Hear evidence presented by property owners
Sustain or lower assessments based on the facts and applicable law
This position plays a vital role in maintaining fairness and public trust in the Townās assessment system.
š Commitment & Training
Grievance Day:Ā The Board meets annually on the fourth Thursday of MayĀ to hear grievances.
Training:Ā No prior experience is required. Comprehensive training is provided by St. Lawrence CountyĀ at the start of your term.
ā Qualifications
Applicants must:
Be a resident of the Town of Waddington
Be at least 18 years of age
Have an interest in property values and community fairness
Please Note:
You may not serve on the BAR if you are the Town Assessor or a member of the Assessorās staff.
